WNEC Softball splits doubleheader with Curry

The WNEC softball team traveled to Curry College on Saturday afternoon to face Curry College, and split the doubleheader, with a 6-5 loss in game 1, and an 11-1 win in game 2.

In game 1, the game was tied at 2 in going into the bottom of the 6th inning, when a Meghan Flaherty double led to 3 Curry runs, putting them up 5-2.  WNEC would respond in the 7th, exploding for 3 runs to tie the game at 5.  But Curry came right back in the bottom of the inning, winning the game on a walk-off RBI single by Amanda Felzmann, giving Curry the 6-5 win.  Rachelle Fecteau pitched the whole game for WNEC, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits and 3 walks in 6.2 IP.

After failing to score first inning in game 2, the G-Bears exploded for 10 runs in the final 5 frames enroute to a 10-3 victory over Curry, earning the doubleheader split after the walk-off loss in game 1.  Tricia Breault went 2-4 at the top of the order, scoring twice and driving in 3 runs.  RF Rachel Wyrwa drove in 4 from the #3 spot in the order, while Laura Madaio managed to cross home plate 3 times for WNEC in the finale.  After having to come in for Alyssa Obin after she was scrached from her start close to gametime, Sarah Lempicki got the win in 6 innings, allowing just 3 baserunners, while giving up an unearned run and striking out 8 while moving to 2-2 on the season.

WNEC moved to 4-9 on the season and 1-1 in conference play, while Curry went to 6-8 and 3-1 in conference play.  The G-Bears travel to Beverly Sunday afternoon as they continue conference play when they face Endicott in a doubleheader.
