After a three-year absense from the sidelines, WNEC athletic director Mike Theulen returned to the helm of WNEC men's basketball Monday according to a statement by Dean of Students Jeanne Hart-Steffes.
Theulen coached the team from 2004-2008, posting a 69-42 record, coaching the team to ECAC tournament appearances in 2005 and 2007, including the ECAC championship in 2007. Theulen's head coaching career goes all the way back to 1983, when he coached the Springfield College women's basketball team for 3 years, and was awarded with the 1984 Northeast-10 coach of the year. After becoming an assistant on the men's team at Springfield in 1986, he took over the program in 1990, going 132-83 in 9 seasons with the team, leading the Pride to 3 consecutive NCAA regionals in his final three seasons.
Theulen takes over for former longtime assistant Chris Agoglia, who went just 25-51 in his 3 seasons at WNEC, including a 4-21 record in his final season. Agoglia also played for Theulen at Springfield College.
