The WNEC baseball team started off their season by winning both their games in the Farmingdale St. baseball tournament in Farmingdale, NY.
In the first game, a 9-2 victory for the G-Bears over Farmingdale St., they took advantage of a 4-run first inning to coast to the victory over the Rams. Starter Matt Rogers went 7 innings giving up just 2 runs (1 earned) on 8 hits along with one strikeout. CF Andrew Fatse went 2-3 with 2 RBI, 2 runs and a walk, and Mike Rubino went 2-5 with a triple, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.
The second game was an 8-4 victory over RPI. WNEC exploded in the third inning with a 7-run inning to go up 7-3, and never looked back from there. RPI Starter was chased from the game in the 3rd inning, going 2.2 innings giving up 7 runs on 5 hits and 6 walks, while WNEC starter Kevin Jefferis went 6 innings allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits and striking out 5. Matt Anthonis went 2-3 with 3 RBI, while Ryan Dudzinski and Mike Rubino had miltiple hit games as well.
The third and final game of the tournament vs. Keene State was postponed to a later date to be determined. The Golden Bears next game will be when they travel to Arizona for the RussMatt Invitational. Their home opener will be on March 20 versus Salve Regina.
