The WNEC softball team took both games from NEC, 8-0 and 9-4, to get back on track after being swept by UNE. The G-Bears improved to 7-11 on the season and 3-3 in TCCC play.
The Golden Bears took no time getting on the board in game 1, jumping out to a 4-0 lead after one taking advantage of 3 errors by NEC. In the second, Maria Francese hit her 1st home run of the season on a solo shot to center field to put the lead to 5-0. After that, WNEC would score in the 4th and 6th to coast to an 8-0 win. NEC starter Gabrielle Tims went the distance for NEC, with just 3 of the 8 runs allowed being earned, while Sarah Lemecki took the hill for WNEC, allowing just 3 baserunners in 5 innings pitched, and striking out 4, improving to 3-3 on the year with the win.
In game 2, the Golden Bears won 9-4, rallying for 9 runs in the 3rd and 4th innings off, both of which started with leadoff homers by Tricia Breault in the third, one of 4 hits on the game for her, and Rachel Wyrwa in the 4th. Meaghan Riemann picked up her second win on the season for WNEC, going 4 innings and allowing 2 unearned runs on 2 hits and a walk.
WNEC plays again Sunday afternoon at home against Salve Regina, with first pitch at noon.
