In the latest installment of the rivalry between the two best college lacrosse programs Springfield has to offer, the Golden Bears used a late 3-goal scoring run to pull away from rival Springfield College, 8-4. The Golden Bears, just 1-3 in games outside the TCCC, took their second non-conference victory, and improved to 7-3 on the season. The Pride fall to 5-4 on the season.
After Springfield took and early 1-0 lead, WNEC went on to score 4 unanswered goals to go up 4-1 at halftime. Springfield came back in the second half and chipped away at the lead, with Shaun Runyon's second goal of the game pulling Springfield within one goal of the G-Bears, 5-4. WNEC would pull away from there with three consecutive goals from Adam Knapton, Mike Santare, and Corrigan Harreys to put away the Pride. Corrigan Harreys and Mike Santare led WNEC with 2 goals apeice on the afternoon, with Mike Santare chipping in with two assists to push his point total to a game high 4.
The Golden Bears have very little time to celebrate the victory, as they get right back to work Wednesday night when they travel to Dudley to face Nichols at 6:30, in their attempt to remain undefeated in conference play.
