WNEC Softball blown out by Endicott in first round of TCCC playoffs

The WNEC softball team lost to Endicott 13-2 in the second round of the TCCC softball championship's double elimination phase.  The Golden Bears started out the game strong, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first inning against TCCC pitcher of the year Jenna Bartolotti.  In the inning, they sent 6 batters to the plate, and gained 2 hits and took advantage of 2 errors.  Tricia Breault and Rachel Wyrwa scored for the G-Bears.

The game would go back into Endicott's hands in the bottom of the first, as the Gulls exploded for 4 runs on 6 hits, sending 8 runners to the plate as well as chasing WNEC starter Alyssa Obin from the game after just 0.2 IP.  Endicott would put the game away in the third inning with a 9-run inning, bringing the score to 13-2.  Bartolotti would also settle down after the rough first inning, retiring 11 of the final 12 batters faced in the final 4 innings of the game.  Meanwhile the Golden Bears failed to have a pitcher go beyond 1.2 IP, allowing 13 runs on 14 hits and 4 walks over 4 innings pitched.  The game was stopped in the middle of the fifth.

The Golden Bears will face UNE on Saturday morning, and with a win will face Endicott in a 2-game set starting at noon.  WNEC will have to win both games in order to win their first TCCC championship, as well as their first conference championship since winning the GNAC tournament in 2006.
