WNEC Softball advance to TCCC semi-finals with win over UNE

The WNEC softball team advanced to the TCCC finals with a 7-4 win over UNE Saturday, jumping out to a 7-0 lead after three innings.  UNE would climb back into the game after getting on the board in the 4th inning Marie Mantelli drove in Stephanie Podolski on an RBI-double.  Mantelli would drive in three more in the 7th when she hit a 3-run homer that cut the lead to three.  It would prove to be too little for UNE, as they made three quick outs following that, ending the game.

WNEC starter Sarah Lempicki got the win going the distance, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits and walk while striking out 4.  She also got good support from the Golden Bears lineup, having 5 players with multiple hits, and Jenna Longo and Elyse Gauvin both scored twice as well.

In the TCCC championship game, WNEC will look to win its first conference championship since 2006, when the team was still in the GNAC.  They will have to beat Endicott twice, the same Endicott team that defeated the G-Bears 13-2 on Wednesday.
